As we all know right now is Prom season for all the seniors! I love prom, this is your time to get all dolled up. This is one of your last memories as a high school student, a time to cherish with all your close friends and celebrate the fact that you made it through the 4 years of high school and the biggest achievement is receiving your diploma! So last year I had the honor of designing a dress for my sister-in-law and two of her close friends. I was extremely excited about designing prom dresses; I had so many ideas rushing through my head, I kept thinking Red Carpet gowns. I interviewed each of them and based on the information I gathered, I sketched 3 different possibilities for all three of them. They all narrowed down to their dream prom dress.
Prom Dress #1 (Sister-in-laws):
Here is the sketch of Roxanna’s prom dress. It was going to be a baby Pink dupioni for the bodice & the under lining of the skirt. Over the skirt it was going to be a lace fabric, however this was quite challenging because it’s hard to find pink lace. This was finally the moment I had been waiting for to dye fabric, so I just went for it., the outcome was amazing. The off the shoulder's sleeves was one of my favorite details of the dress. It consisted of chiffon fabric and it was ruched so it looked delicate and soft. I loved the way it turned out so feminine and romantic.
Prom Dress #2:
Here is the sketch of Rosalba’s prom dress. The bodice was going to be made out of a small nude sequins and the skirt was going to be a champing satin, but not too shiny since the sequin was going to be the focal point. To accentuate her waist I ruched the waist. The skirt was draped from the right side. I really loved the way it turned out it reminded me of a Roman Goddess, in today's modern days.

Prom Dress #3:
Here is the sketch of Paola’s prom dress. She wanted the dress to be red along with shimmer incorporated in to the fabric and she also wanted lots of beads and crystals. I saw a silk taffeta that was iridescent when she moved it would be two tone red/black, which she loved the idea. Now the beads and crystals were quite challenging because I hand sewed each one of them. Let me tell you bead work is definitely an art of its own. You have to be very patient and accurate about the placement of the beads. It is very important to have the right tools if you want to move along a bit faster. I loved that even though the design was quite simple the beads and crystal details definitely made it special "One of a Kind"!
Here is a close up of the bead work that I applied on the neckline and waist. All my hard work paid off because both she and I were super happy with the outcome!
