Red Lace Dress

It's prom season!! Which means I worked on a prom dress.   Truth be told  I was a bit nervous about taking on this dress, considering my last custom design was 2 years ago! Not to forget, I now have a little toddler who requires all my attention. The thing about prom dresses or any custom design is they require more work, attention to detail, and you just never know what else gets thrown your way. With lot's of excitement I decided to take it on. I met with my client, asked her a few questions prior to the meeting and based on her answers I sketched several options. Two of the main features included a keyhole on the back and for it to be a deep red fabric. She decided to go with the sketch above, which was a mermaid silhouette, sweetheart neckline, lace overlay as a halter top, and a keyhole on the back. We talked about different fabric options, she decided to go with a beautiful red gupiere lace and red peachskin. She was excited to see the dress come to lif...

Señorita Dress

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone!! Today I'll be sharing a special dress I made last year for my shop. It was inspired by my Mexican roots and an often worn accessory the sarape. This is by far my favorite design! I instantly fell in love with the fabric from the moment I laid eyes on it. The fabric was so festive and bright it made me feel happy inside.   When designing the Señorita dress I wanted to do a lot of fabric manipulation. For the Bodice I played with directional lines, creating a chevron effect. I think matching the lines right was crucial otherwise it would have looked so wrong. When cutting out the pieces I had to cut one piece first and do line matching making sure they would be mirrored. It was time consuming but well worth taking my time. The bodice was fully lined with a light blue lining. I knew I wanted a showstopper for the back, I went for a back cut out. As you can tell by now I love having fun back details on my designs. For the back I had mirrore...

Not So Terrible Two's

Let's celebrate, Lollipop Couture's Etsy shop is turning TWO!!! 🎉 Wow, two years already! I remember all the mix emotions; afraid, nervous, and excited about opening my Etsy shop. I just felt like it was time to take that leap of faith, I had been doing custom designs for several years and I had a one year old daughter. Who inspired me to continue to chase after my dreams. I started designing for her and after receiving many compliments I decided the shop would be exclusively babies, toddler, and girls clothing and accessories. It hasn't been easy, between being a mother, wife, and business owner I have learned so much. I am so humbled to be designing for your little darlings, thank you for supporting my handmade shop. Thank you for following this crazy dream of mine! Cheers to the NOT SO TERRIBLE TWO'S! Belle Inspired Dress

Ever since they announced the new Beauty and the Beast movie, I was excited to go see it since this is a classic Disney movie that I grew up watching. I really wanted to take my daughter and share a little piece of my childhood. She had already seen the cartoon version, so she was very familiar with Belle. She is a huge fan of the Disney princess, she can literally name them all. I thought it be cute if she wore an inspired Belle dress to go see the movie. I thought long and hard how I wanted to design the dress, because I didn't want it to be too overly done. My initial thought was lace but I really wanted her to be comfy while watching the movie. That week was pretty hectic to go fabric shopping, luckily I remembered I had a soft knit fabric in my stash!! I wanted a modern take on the Belles dress, still keeping the classic yellow, and off the shoulders look. I quickly drafted the pattern pieces, which included an off the shoulder front and ba...

Red Bow Dress

If Mondays have you feeling a little blue, well you're in luck. I've got a red dress that will brighten up your day. In my previous post I shared with you one of the Valentine's day dress that I designed. Today I'll be sharing the second dress I made! If you must know I've used peachskin fabric multiple times and I have to say it has become one of my favorite fabrics. This fabric is soft, the texture literally looks like a peach skin lol, and it drapes beautifully. When it comes to Valentines day you can never go wrong with the classic RED dress so I went with just that.    The design was a bit similar to the previous one, with the bodice being a princess neckline, the skirt being gathered. However, the back of the dress was a showstopper if I don't say so myself. I made a fun cut out and adorned it with a nice big bow. When in doubt put a bow on it. I finished the hem with a delicate rolled hem and installed (yes you guessed it) an invisi...
